On one morning in July 2018, Wadi Al Aqoum village in Al-Duraimi district, south of Hodeidah governorate, witnessed a violent attack by the Houthi militia after they were defeated by the resistance forces.

Zahraa Ayesh (33 years old) has been living in the Al-Jishah camp in the city of Al-Khokha since the incident, and she tells Newsyemen what happened on that day that made her a widow and a mother of six children without a father or any shelter for her and her children, which made her flee to the camp.

Zahra adds: After the return of her husband who was imprisoned by the Houthi militia for a year and 8 months, and after liberating their village from the militia’s grip, a retaliatory missile attack took place on their village, we all escaped from the shells, my husband Adel, my five children and I were running away and I didn’t know I was pregnant with a child at the time, and my husband stopped when he saw an old woman who could not run, he told me to run for you and the children, and I will carry her and join you .. So he carried her until we got away a little from the village and he sat to rest from the heat of that day. He and the old women sat next to him, his father, grandfather, grandmother and 4 others, suddenly I heard a massive explosion that made me stop and look behind me and I prayed to God that my husband should not be among them, but my prayers was not answered.

It was a shell that killed them all. I was screaming when I returned to them. They had been martyred and my husband was shedding blood, but he was still alive. I was calling him: Adel .. Adel. He heard me and answered in a whisper-like voice, so I cried, "Help him, I swear he is alive and still breathing". I sat for more than half an hour until the ambulance came, so he was transferred to Aden and died 4 days later from his wounds.

Zahra added to Newsyemen, I knew I was pregnant the day I received the news of his death.
