American warnings of "Iranian aggression" in the region

A senior Pentagon official said on Wednesday that there are indications that Iran may conduct hostilities in the future amid escalating tension.
"We are also still seeing indications, and for obvious reasons, I will not go into details about the possibility of an Iranian aggression," John Rood, the third largest Pentagon official, told reporters.
Rood did not provide details of the information on which those concerns were based, or on any extent of the timeline.
"We have sent very clear and explicit signals to the Iranian government about the repercussions of the possible aggression," he added.
Two US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that there was intelligence information during the past month indicating that Iran was sending forces and weapons in the region.
One of the officials said part of these concerns related to Iranian activities in Iraq, which is witnessing anti-government protests.
