Houthi militias imposed an undeclared emergency on Al-Mahweet city after disagreements with a number of sheikhs and social figures affiliated with the GPC there.

Local sources in Mahweet said that Houthi militias imposed strict security measures on the entry process to the city of Mahweet and are conducting strict inspection procedures especially on those coming to the city from the capital Sana'a and neighboring governorates.

The militias carried out arrests against a number of social figures and political leaders belonging to the General People's Congress in conjunction with the anniversary of the December 2 uprising led by former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, Chairman of the General People's Congress.

According to the sources, these measures came after a meeting of a number of sheikhs and social figures held in the city of Mahweet, where it was prepared for an event to mark the two years since the martyrdom of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, and his companion Secretary Arif Zuka, which aroused the anger of the militias that carried out arrests, and imposed tight security on the process of entry to the city of Mahweet, the capital of the province.
