The UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, has failed to persuade Houthi militia leaders to approve UN agencies' plan to distribute relief aid next year, UN sources said.

The sources said that the recent visit by Martin Griffiths to Sana'a focused on resolving the disputes between the militias and the Office of the United Nations Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Sana'a on the distribution of relief aid, mostly from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates through the King Salman Relief Center.

Houthi militia leader Mohammed Ali al-Houthi has led a campaign of accusations against the United Nations of corruption in the distribution of relief aid in militia-controlled areas, while UN sources accused the Houthi militias of unprecedented corruption in controlling and stealing aid of the poor.

The UN sources said that the militia leader Mohammed Ali al-Houthi leads a blackmail operation against UN offices and aid organizations in the militia-controlled areas, where the militia insists that the aid operation be converted to cash instead of in-kind assistance, while the United Nations refuses to do so and insists on keeping the distribution of aid in its present form.

Several organizations published reports confirming the existence of a complicity between the United Nations and the Houthi militias in the practice of corruption with regard to the distribution of relief assistance provided by the Arab Alliance countries and some other countries, either through the King Salman Relief Center or delivered directly from countries to the United Nations organizations. .
