High temperatures in Aden cost business sector, family budget losses exceeded Y.R 40 billion

The severe heat wave in Aden city this summer caused a business sector and a family budget heavy economic losses due to increasing in financial costs and measures to cope with high temperatures amid the government weakness in securing of electricity requirements of the population.

Rising temperatures and power outages on private economic, industrial, commercial and service sectors, productivity, transportation and houses exceeded at least 40 billion riyals, economists told NewsYemen.

The economists explained that this economic cost is due to the diminish productivity in many businesses, and the increase of additional financial costs in service facilities, industrial and commercial to secure electricity, as well as civilians' costs in buying fuel to generate power either generators, or transformers and batteries, chargers, to save energy.

The temperature in Aden city recorded a high degree, 40 degrees Celsius, citizens said, adding the severe heat wave this summer has not seen in the city since 2002.

The electricity in Aden goes out for about nine hours a day in  the electric-power capacity deficit reached around 180 MW, according to the electricity control center in Aden.

Media outlets have reported the death of three women in their 50s and 60s in al-Tawilah neighborhood in Crater old city in interim capital Aden in the past few days  as a result of the rising temperature and power outages.
