Khor Al-Mukalla is a tourist landmark that was established during the reign of former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh in the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramawt in the beginning of 2005, in conjunction with the anniversary of the Yemeni unity celebrations that Yemen was celebrating on May 22 of each year.
After its inauguration, Khor Al-Mukalla remained a unique tourist attraction intended for the people of Hadhramaut from various regions, and even other governorates until the spark of the war led by Iran's militias in Yemen, and changed the equation of life in the country in late 2014.

After the year 2015, the famous tourist attraction of Al-Mukalla “Al-Khor” became polluted by sewage, and unpleasant smells emanated from it, due to the negligence suffered by the concerned authorities that do not give the city's landmarks any attention that touches reality.
These poor conditions in Al-Mukalla threaten the khor to return to before the year 2005, as this was a liquid area where the city’s sewers converged and known as “Al-Aiqa”, which is a fertile hotbed of diseases that helps spread diseases and epidemics.

"The manufacture of a tourist attraction from a disgusting liquid in Mukalla was a huge step in the history of Hadhramaut that has not been seen so far," said old citizens to Newsyemen.
They add: "We place great hopes on the local authority in Hadhramaut by paying particular attention to khor Mukalla, on the grounds that the Creek is a historical and tourist landmark, and it is not easy to construct a similar project un the present day in which problems worsened due to the war."

Citizens added in their interview to Newsyemen: "It is not difficult to remedy the maintenance operations that are needed in Khor Al Mukalla today, but it is certain that the matter will change after a future period that may be long or short."
Khor Al-Mukalla extends for about 1500 meters, and divides the city into two directions; the western side is the "Sharj" area and the eastern "Bajmaan".
On the banks of the Khor, small popular cafes are distributed, in which tea of all kinds and various titles is served, in addition to the popular cuisine that Mukalla is distinguished from the rest of the Yemeni cities.
